To prove we use the fact that the diagonal of a parallelogram divides it into two congruent triangles.

AB is parallel to DC.

So, by the definition of alternative interior angles, the angle DBA = angle BDC

Also, we have:

AD is parallel to BC.

So, the angle ADB = angle DBC

Thus by the property of congruent triangle, we can say that corresponding sides of ABD and BDC are also congruent. Thus, AB is congruent to DC and BC is congruent to AD.
